Mould & Efflorescence

Mould Webpage

The presence of Mould is all too common these days. There are several reasons why it appears.

Mostly it is caused by lack of ventilation in the room and is often present in wet or steamy areas.

STEPS TO ELIMINATE MOULD

Step 1: Try and create some natural air cross flow in the area. Often existing vents are blocked with dirt of paint, and even sometimes they have no corresponding outside vents, so installation of good vents is paramount.

Step 2 : Remember to wear approved protective breathing mask and protective gloves and open doors and windows.

.To kill and remove the existing mould.apply bleach to the walls and re apply when dry and wash off with luke warm water.

When the area is dry, apply a good quality sealer undercoat with mould inhibitor built in to the complete area.

Once dry, apply 2 coats of good quality paint with mould inhibitor built in.

Efflorescence Webpage

Efflorescence

The cause of efflorescence is water penetration leaching out the salts from the surface. It is common where surfaces remain damp or wet for a prolonged period. It obvious there is a problem, its often a result of poor construction practices where no effective waterproof membrane is present or a result of bad drainage or where a garden bed is against a wall allowing water to penetrate through the wall.

The pictures to your left & right are a few examples of efflorescence and there are many more.
