Waterproofing a factory wall

The exterior walls of this factory were recently sealed to stop the prevailing winds and rain from penetrating through the brick walls.

There were many gaps in the brickwork, particularly around the windows and doors etc.

To rectify the problem, a clear liquid penetrating sealer was applied to the brickwork to form a permanent water shield against rain etc.

Gaps around the windows were filled with polyurethane caulking and gaps in the brickwork were filled with a non shrink grout in a matching colour.

The wall is now fully sealed and there is no noticeable change to the natural brickwork colour.

The same sealers can be applied over new tiled surfaces providing there is no glaze on the surface of the tiles. This will give extra protection to the grout and tile surfaces.

Please note: We do not recommend using the clear sealer over leaking surfaces.

Sealing of an underground car park

The underground car-park illustrated at right presented us with a real challenge. The innocent garden bed in the picture at right was the major cause of the water seepage you can see in the photos below. Water from the garden bed flowed down and the wall and through the joints causing constant leaks though many sections. Unfortunately the dividing wall of carpark was constructed against the boundary line of the adjoining flats, giving us no access to the side where tanking and drainage should have been installed. It left us no alternatives but to try to hold back the water from inside the basement. This method is called negative tanking and is much more difficult to control.

With knowledge, persistence and fantastic chemicals, we finally managed to completely seal all the bad sections of the wall.

After observing for a couple of weeks we were able to render the entire wall surface.

Finally if you are contemplating construction a room below the ground, contact us today for a no obligation quote to provide waterproofing and/or drainage to the outside area.
